The definition of rakeback has to be understood in two parts. The first is ‘What is rake?’

Rake is a method of how online poker sites earn their income. When individuals play cash games the house gathers a percentage out of each hand. This percentage taken from each player is the income of the game house and this is known as rake.

When an affiliate gives a percentage of the amount collected to its players then it is known as rakeback. Thus rakeback is a means of income to the game house and money got back by players.
